Traveling exhibition of the Illu Kollektiv Graz

"Illustrated perspectives from the interim & times of turmoil" 2021-2022.

The Illu Kollektiv Graz is formed of several illustrators from Graz and has been meeting at regular intervals since 2019. The preliminary concept for a joint exhibition was developed in 2020 and matured during the year which was so heavily influenced by the Covid-19 crisis. The pandemic led us to host the exhibition in unoccupied spaces, such the windows of vacant storefronts, for example. The chosen locations closely mirror the Covid-19 situation: avoiding indoor spaces and crowds, while the empty storefronts symbolize the social and economic consequences of the crisis. At the same time, the exhibition contributes towards making the city diverse, stimulating, and informative for passers-by. The idea is brought to life in the form of an evolving group traveling exhibition, set up in distinct locations, with diverse thematic focuses and illustrators.

1st stage of the traveling exhibition

The first stage of the traveling exhibition is entitled "Illustrated Perspectives from the Interim": We present illustrative works that reflect our view of the past months of the pandemic. From very different perspectives, the so-called interim, the time between the first lockdown in March 2020 and the present, will be thematized and made accessible to the public, in keeping with current health and safety measures.

For the first station, entitled "Unlocked", we were kindly provided with currently vacant business premises at Annenstraße 20, 8020 Graz, from 19.02.2021. Our thanks go to the Bürgerspitalstiftung Graz and the Business Department of the City of Graz for making the spaces available.

For the second station, named "MindBubbles", the laundromat at Griesplatz 2, 8020 Graz was made available to us from 19.03.2021 to 07.05.2021. Our thanks go to the owner of the laundromat, Harald Reiter, for granting us use of his premises at Griesplatz 2 and Bernadette, of Gries-Connect, for her organizational support.

For the third stage, "Whirled" - within the Lendwirbel 2021 framework - we have been permitted to exhibit in the shop windows of the Haus der Architektur, Mariahilferstr. 2, 8020 Graz, from 07.05.2021 until the end of May - thank you very much to the Lendwirbel team and the HAD team (photo, HDA).

2nd stage of the traveling exhibition

The second stage of the touring exhibition is entitled "Illustrated Perspectives from the Time of upheaval. We present illustrative works which visualize our view of present and future challenges in our society. The thematic focus is chosen based on the places or events covered. As time passes and our exhibition travels through the city, our concerns, messages and means of expression develop and change, we reflect on social issues and personal emotions, and illustrate them to stimulate public discussion.

For the first station, "Breathe", an outdoor exhibition within the Klima-Kultur-Pavillon of the Breathe Earth Collective at Freiheitsplatz, Graz, presents works on climate change, urban climate, change. Open until mid-August.
